For some of you, this week marks the start of a new adventure as a first-time college student or someone returning after a career transition. Even for students already familiar with Mineral Area College, each semester can feel different than the one before, complete with its own rewards and challenges.
Like you, The Learning Center has grown and changed over the years, and a new chapter begins for us, as well. But one thing hasn’t changed: our purpose. The Learning Center is here to help you succeed as a student.
In the past, we did this by providing tutoring in a variety of courses and proctoring instructor-based exams. Under this new chapter, the LC refines its focus, and it fulfills its mission through a partnership between the “old Learning Center”—now called the Academic Resource Center—and EXCEL. Trying to figure out who you need to see for help with each course may seem a bit confusing at first, especially if you’ve worked with either service in the past, but there is nothing to worry about. It’s not important for you to come in knowing who you will work with—it’s important that you come in. We will make sure you have the best possible resources available to meet your needs.
The Learning Center has changed in focus and composition, but in doing so, we can reach more students needing help with writing, math, science, and other courses from one convenient, central location.
